Politics around Narendra Modi’s fast is on full swing and got only better when Maharashtra Navanirman Sena Chief Raj Thackeray showed up at the fast venue. Thackeray said he backs Modi’s candidature for prime ministership.
Raj said, “I will be very happy if Modi becomes PM”
His visit thoroughly miffed his estranged uncle and Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, Shiv Sena being the BJP’s ally. In an article in the party’s mouthpiece, Saamna, Bal Thackeray said Modi was fasting to gain attention. He did not have a motive to fast unlike Anna.
Shiv Sena and other hardliners within the Sangh Parivar have come out in open criticising the new avatar of Modi. Praveen Togadia, VHP and several members of the RSS have expressed disapproval for Modi’s fast. In an informal meeting the RSS said it did not like this avatar of Modi. They want Modi to project the Hindutva image of RSS and not be a ‘Sadbhavna’ mascot.
